Lesson Objective: Students will create 1- 2 minute current event podcasts with the information they obtain from researching a variety of news related websites.
Materials:
- Computers with Internet Access
- Itunes
- Garage Band
- Computer compatible microphone
- Pencils
- Paper
- Word processing program/application such as Microsoft Word, NeoOffice, Pages, etc
Procedure/Implementation:
- Students will choose a topic from a list of current event topics.
- Students will access sites from the optional website list to research their topic and will record their findings either on paper or via a word processing document. Students may also choose to follow an existing podcast series and "relay" the information that they learn from that podcast to the student body via their own podcast. CNN for example provides current events via the podcast CNN Student News
- Students will write or type their current event report/broadcast prior to recording it.
- Students will use Garage Band and a microphone attachment to record their current event broadcast.
- After their current event broadcast is successfully recorded in Garage Band students will use ITunes to convert their Garage Band recording into an MP3 file for listening/podcast purposes.

Hey Kevin & Joel. Hopefully this reflects what we've talked about. Let me know what you think & please make any changes you see necessary. The example podcasts I added are in fact news podcasts but they begin with "jokes of the day" to "engage their audience" :) Kevin I believe you said you also have an example podcast you will be adding? Joel I couldn't remember all the specifics from our conversations so please add or like I said change whatever you want. I think we should add additional website options so if you guys want to add some to that section that would be great & I couldn't remember if we had decided on a Grade & Subject so if someone wants to add that we should be good to go! Oh & please check all my links & let me know if any aren't working. At this point they all are. Talk to you soon guys! -Megan
Ok...I added that CNN student news image and linked it to the podcast link for an example of what they can use for research. I also added 2 more links to the resource list. (Time For Kids and Weekly Reader) Everything else looks good. Nice job Megan.
Thanks Megan. You did an outstanding job! I put in an subject and grade level as well as added a time guideline to the performance objective. Please change as you all see fit. (Joel)
